I am Juliano Coletto, oceanologist and doctoral student in the Graduate Program in Biological Oceanography at FURG. My advisors at FURG are Professors Dr. Lauro Madureira and Dr. Silvina Botta. My research is about the ecology of a fish that is abundant in the oceans, the Skipjack tunna, or canned tuna. In this study, we applied techniques such as diet analysis and stable isotope analysis to generate an accurate "picture" of the Skipjack tunna food chain on the Brazilian coast. Thus, we generate necessary information for the management and conservation of this resource, seeking to understand what will be the impacts of climate change on the marine ecosystem. In this context, in order to develop part of my thesis abroad, we submitted a sandwich scholarship proposal for the FURG Institutional Internationalization Project -PrInt, and we got it. My experience in the sandwich doctorate is being amazing. I am receiving theoretical and practical training, interacting with Dr. Seth Newsomeda University of New Mexico (USA) research group, which is internationally recognized for its research in marine animal ecology. In this sense, PrInt-FURG will broaden my academic and doctoral education, as well as contribute to project development and knowledge transfer for researchers in Brazil.
